Week 3 Post.
This week’s reading by Winston was about the history of the telecommunications system. The reading took us through a timeline of technological advancements that allowed for the globalisation of communication. I found that the text reinforced my understanding of this process, rather than furthered it. This was mainly because Wilson’s lecture covered the topic succinctly prior to me reading the text.
Wilson delved more into the issues surrounding these advancements in technology, ie. the social and cultural impacts. The lecture helped me understand why the technologies became accepted inventions and how they became an important part of cultures that had no previous need for them.
