Week 9 Post
It was good to see what the other groups had in mind for their final presentations. There was a nice range in topics and proposed presentation elements that made me excited about getting to see what people would come up with after 13 weeks of laborious labour and hardcore hard work.
Ps. I am drunk xoxox
Week 7 Post
For the week 7 post we were asked to look at online campaign from a non government organisation on any issue and to analyse what is it asking; whether to receive donations or to encourage users to sign a petition.
GetUp!’s Help fight the coal lobby
What is its message?
The message is that we should be investing in renewable energy resources instead of concentrating on fossil fuels.
Who is the target? Who is being spoken to?
The target is the Australian public. With the current awareness of global warming being quite high it is not attempting to raise awareness but more an attempt to encourage action from the people against the government.
What are they being offered membership to?
A community of Australian’s who share the same views on emissions.
Interactive?
Yes, to become part of the cause people are encouraged to become members of GetUp!’s website and to make a donation so that the advertisements can be aired on television.
Design?
Website structure. Memberships. Direct debit donations.
National/International?
Although climate change is a global issue, the focus of this campaign is on what Australia should be doing.

Week 5 Post
The task for week 5 was to find information about a job that requires immaterial labour. Immaterial labour can be regarded as the informational content of the commodity where the skills involved in direct labor are increasingly skills involving cybernetics and computer control. The idea of the task was to gain an understanding about the physical impact, immaterial labour can have and to challenge the common belief that this form of work is less demanding than more obvious physically involved occupations.
I decided that I would like to look at Games Journalism as it is a career path that I am interested in.
Job Title:
Games Journalist
Pay:
Widely varied; from volunteer work to professional
Job Description:
As the job title suggest, games journalism involves writing about video games and video game related topics.
Where?:
While some games journalists are lucky enough to be granted access to offices and desks to do their work, most amateur writers and a lot of paid writers work from their home computers.
Contract:
There are both contracted and full time employment options available to games journalists.
Employer/advertiser (who?):
In terms of corporate games journalist, the governing body of the organisation is in control of employment. For example, the Official Xbox Magazine of Australia is published by Future Magazines and it is they who control employment.
Independent games journalism websites have employment schemes that are generally controlled by the founder/creator of the website. This person has the power to allocate moderator capabilities to its users and grant people permission to generate content on their site.
Career:
A career in games journalism is usually kicked off by working as a volunteer writer for independent website. Once the individual has built up a portfolio of work, they can begin to write for more reputable sources.
That’s all I’ve got to say about Vietna….Games Journalism.
